Our work was cut out for us today. Some ceiling panels fell down a few days ago, and I wondered if they would all, one day, coming tumbling down on top of someone’s head.
It turns out my hunch was correct. When beginning to take them down, they all came tumbling across my head – about 20 panels, all at once.
As well, the heat ducts leading to the 2nd floor needed to be removed as they were no longer in use. I can’t have shared heat and skill keep the legal suite status.
So first, removal of the ducts and the paneling that covered them.
And then the 2nd layer of ceiling panels, then the 3rd (a Beaver Board paneling kind of material)…
…exposing the original ceiling boards.
As you can see, there are holes all over. There is no way to fix this ceiling back to its original form. So, out come the ceiling boards. Thing is, I’m afraid of heights, and kneeling on 3/8″ ply set atop the floor joists looking down at a room 10′ below is not my cup-o-tea.
In the end, after cleaning up, it looked like the same room minus a ceiling and one wall … but basically the same.
I asked my tenant if we could get in there today, and they agreed. Maybe they’re thinking that was a mistake! Now the laundry area has no ceiling!
So now on to the previous project – upstairs floor joists.
