electrical and structural supplies

More work must be done to raise the 2nd floor back to its rightful elevation.  The load-bearing partition between the living room and laundry / bathroom is, by my measurements, two 2 1/8 inches too short.  The floor dips that much from over 28 inch span across the hallway.  The installers of this wall didn’t really care enough to make it the same height as the other interior partitions.  So, it has to be removed and another put in its place.

I’m jacking up the 2nd floor joists with one of my 20-ton bottle jacks and holding it there with some teleposts (or jack posts, or whatever you call them in your vernacular).  As I jack, I hear small creaking and cracking noises, wood fibres being forced to do what they haven’t done in more than 50 years.

At some point, when the floor joists and stairway are secure, I’ll remove the wall – maybe half of it at a time to not have any nasty surprises.  More dismantlement is needed to the wall adjacent the stairway, the hallway ceiling boards, and electrical.

We also got a few bundles of 2×2 for furring out the 2×4 walls to (roughly) 2×6 thickness.

And food bars.  And a new sink base.  The previous tenants took out a water leak sensor and didn’t tell me about a kitchen water leak.  Black mould ensued.

And the junk mounts up.  We finished loading up the trailer.  Tomorrow is a dump run.
