We are gutting the mud room. I have no idea what the floor is like; but, from the looks of the rotted NE corner, it is likely rotten.
Panels removed, insulation partially removed:
Vinyl planks removed, tile flooring exposed:
Layers of flooring exposed:
video: 1403 3 Ave N Lethbridge AB main 20260419_145829 mud room removing ceiling insulation.mp4
Floor layers:
- vinyl planks
- 12×12 tiles
- panelling (likely used as a proboard)
- plywood (likely to even out the bumps)
- tongue-and-groove flooring
- floor planks
- 2×6 joists
- bricks, concrete blocks
Removing tongue-and-groove flooring:
The joists were rotten at the outside wall. The northern part of the sill plate / bottom plate of the outside wall was mostly intact except for the NE corner. The southern part, under the 2F entrance, did not exist. That part of the mud room was just hanging on both sides. The floor structure will be hauled off to the dump.
Now that the flooring is removed…
…we can get to work on jacking the mud room up to the same level as the house. But that’s for another day.
