I wasn’t supposed to come in today as I had other obligations, but I was called away to a sewer problem at another property. In my spare time between tasks, I came here. Light duties today.
I found out why the kitchen light only sometimes worked. Here was the pattern:
kitchen light off (without hitting the switch)

Can you see the pattern? Yes, the power relayed from the bedroom light to the kitchen light was hooked up to the wrong wire – the switched side instead of the power side of the switch. Oops.
I needed to shim a balloon stud that was cut. As this is the only stud in this area (the stud to the west was cut for the back door, and the one to the east was cut likely in the 1950s to add a stairway), it had to be doctored. There are two other 2×6 double-stud load bearing walls on each side of the stud, in the original house, so there is lots of other support. But the stud still must be supported as this extends to the roof.
I broke off an already broken reciprocator saw blade and hammered it in as a shim. Now it bears weight – and lots of it.
Dave showed up to finish the bath fan bulkhead mudding. He did a nice job on this but was dissatisfied with the outcome as the shower wall end 2×4 was crooked. I should never have used a crooked piece. Sorry, Dave.
The rest of the boulevard was weeded as well.
