The buying of electrical supplies never seems to end!
Neighbour Dave suggested green would be a good colour for the front door since the house evidently was trimmed in green long ago. I got this green from Home Depot. I can’t wait to paint the door! But I have to wait to paint the door as there are lots of other priorities to complete the suite.
The window framing will be done in white though. The windows were purchased without brick moulding because I want to trim them with real wood. I got some 1×6 planks to complete these.
I replaced the living room toggle switches with rocker switches to match the 3-way dimmer switches. The kitchen will have this type of 3-way as well to conform to code.
However, trying to replace the living room light and fan switches proved disastrous. Here’s how it all went down:
- Mud got in the screw holes.
- Mounting screws were hard to put in and likely stripped or even cross-threaded.
- Removing the screws screwed up the screw holes. Threads stripped, and removing the screws became impossible.
- The box was unmounted from the wall with the interior decking / construction screws. The box didn’t come out willingly.
- An attempt was made to pull the box out with pliers, Vice-Grips, screwdrivers, etc.
- The drywall around the box was damaged.
- Allan got angry and threw a fit of rage.
- The drywall guy next door, Dave, came over, saw it, threw a fit of rage himself, and knocked Allan around with …
Okay, so not all of these happened; all except the last. Dave was fine with it and said that, where he worked before retirement, this kind of thing happened all the time. It was up to the electricians, plumbers, drywallers, mudders, painters, etc. to work around such things. This quieted my temperament.
Potential tenants have been coming by every day or two. One of them brought a form as they will be getting rental assistance.
I have been choosing unique trim boards for character. (For those who like pristine white and perfection, this house is not for you.) The white caulk will dry clear.
The front door is a bit of an issue. The original trim around the door was likely damaged by people dragging their feet and age. I’m not sure how I want to address this.
Faceplates were put on. The back door toggle switches were replaced with rocker switches (commonly called décor switches).
The living room trim boards were put on. I think it looks sharp.
