Reuse, Recycle, Refuse

Going to the landfill doesn’t always mean that the garbage goes into the landfill.  Lots of this refuse is recycled.

This refuse was from the upstairs suite renovations.

Concrete is ground up and used as aggregate for other concrete or fill.

White wood, they call it, is wood that hasn’t been painted.  It can be chipped up and used as biomass in garden beds, according to the people at the recycling depot (a.k.a. the dump).

Intact bricks can be reused, and broken ones can be crushed for fill.  I save all of the intact bricks.  They are piled behind the house.  I’ll use them for landscaping.  I don’t have a solid plan for them just yet.

I always separate the painted, used, or mouldy drywall from the new, unused pieces.  They recycle the unused gypsum into new boards.

I have no idea where electronics go.  I dropped off smoke / CO detectors, ceiling fans, batteries, wire, etc.

The one type of refuse I thought someone would reuse (as that’s the 3rd R in Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) was the windows.  I advertised in Kijiji for free windows for a while, but no one picked them up.  I had several people who said they were interested.

In fact, as I was dumping off the drywall, I had a message from someone about them.  I got no response.

In the end, they went into the landfill.

And that is that.
