As the title says, more drywalling was done today. The bathroom must be finished soon so that Dave can come in and tape. However, more fiasco happened as well.
I found, in trying to put up this sheet on the top half of the east wall, that there was no backing at the top. I added some angled pieces and Tuck taped the cut vapour barrier.
I say fiasco because it was a miserable failure, bulging, breaking, sticking, being the right size but not shape, etc. I ended up ripping it from the wall in many pieces and tossing it outside.
I took some “personal time” to collect myself. Dave came by later on. We began again.
The length is good, but it won’t fit because drywall doesn’t bend, right? Wrong. You score the back of the drywall and g e n t l y fold it. I did the same thing yesterday. It worked well yesterday, so Dave said we should do it again today. Perhaps I’ve contributed something new?
The shower head was placed too high. The renter(s) for this suite will not be tall as the entrance / stairway has limited height, the ceilings are 7′-8″ (not a full 8-feet), and there are slanted walls everywhere. So, the shower should not be that high. I adjusted it to a more reasonable height.
Yes, I know, there should be mould resistant drywall here. Well, I broke one earlier today, the very same one I waited until 8:00am to buy at Home Depot. So now I only have regular white. I’ll prime it with Zinsser or something.
As we had no more full sheets of green mould resistant drywall, I used up three pieces with butt joints. They happened to be the exact height. Very odd.
The area above the shower didn’t go quite as smoothly. The third piece took four tries. Yes, four tries.
At this point, 8 hours in, brain fatigue was setting in. I cut the holes for the upper landing light switch and outlet and the baseboard heating shutoff switch on the wrong side. It took me an hour to complete this wall.
Meanwhile, Dave was busy mudding and taping. The bathroom is now done. Next, skim coat.
As well, he put corner bead on the upper landing / kitchen wall.
But, before he left, we used the remaining pieces to fill in the west side of the stairway.
